Johnson Dr. Construction Open House

The rehabilitation project for Johnson Drive (Lamar Ave. to Roe Ave) will begin the first week of July. The project will include a UBAS surface treatment for pavement (similar to what was completed on Lamar Ave. in 2020); restriping to a three-lane section from Lamar Avenue to Nall Avenue and pavement markings throughout the project limits; pavement and median repairs; spot replacement of curb and gutter, driveway approaches, sidewalks, parking stalls, and ADA ramps, and removal of the decorative asphalt paver sidewalk east of Nall Avenue which will be replaced with concrete to meet ADA requirements. Additionally, the project includes installation of a five-foot wide sidewalk on the north side of Johnson Drive within Roeland Park city limits.

Open House: The City will host an open house on Thursday, June 23 at the Powell Community Center from 6-7:30 p.m. If you are unable to attend, please feel free to contact City staff and we will be happy to meet with you and answer your questions at your convenience.

Tentative schedule: The general schedule includes approximately 6 weeks of removal and replacement of concrete beginning the first week of July. Paving, followed by pavement markings, should begin in mid-August 2022 and be complete in one to two weeks. The road will be paved half at a time so that Johnson Drive is open to traffic. The tentative schedule is contingent upon weather, utility conflicts, material availability, etc. If there are delays due to weather or utility conflicts, the schedule may be revised.
