Stormwater in Mission – What You Need to Know
July 14, 2025

Stormwater Project Spotlight: 61st Terrace and Hodges Drive
One of the various stormwater efforts throughout the City includes the drainage modification project at 61st Terrace and Hodges Drive. Construction involves the removal of existing structures and installation of new pipes, one area inlet, and partial driveway replacement. This will help address runoff that currently drains onto the public Right-of-Way. Construction is anticipated to begin in the fall of this year.

Stormwater Spotlight: Illicit Discharge
Anything entering a storm sewer system that is not entirely composed of stormwater is considered illicit discharge.

Common Examples:
– Septic Tank Seepage
– Automotive Fluids (oil, gasoline)
– Household Toxins (pesticides, cooking grease)
– Construction Waster (paint, concrete)
– Spills

💧 How Can You Help? Pollution Prevention 💧

🚨Be on the lookout for signs of illicit discharge near storm drains and outfalls such as
unusual odors, discoloration, abnormal water flow, suds, or stains.

♻️Properly dispose of waste by coordinating an appointment with the Johnson County Household Hazardous Material Recycling facility.

📸 See something suspicious? Report it here: Report a Concern. Include photos of things like empty containers, hoses, or pipes — but don’t touch unknown items.
