Have you heard the news? The Mission Market is on the move to Broadmoor Park for the 2026 market season, which kicks off on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
A large infrastructure project is planned for the Rock Creek Channel in 2026. This section of the channel has experienced several extensive failures over the last 4-5 years, and the City has been working on design and funding to provide long-term solutions for this section of the creek that meanders through our downtown. The project will involve:
Lowering the channel from upstream at Woodson to downstream of Reeds Rd (near Maple)
Upsizing the box culvert at Woodson
Replacing/upsizing the bridges at Outlook and Reeds Rd. – both of which are in need of repairs
The City has secured funding through the Johnson County Stormwater Management Program (SMAC), which provides a 50/50 cost share for design and construction. Earlier this year, the Council issued bonds to finance a portion of the project. Design is currently in progress, and the project should go out to bid in early 2026. Until the project is bid, we will not know the specific timing or impacts, but the plan is to stage construction on the city-owned parcels along the creek channel. This will include the current Mission Market site along Johnson Drive.
Due to the nature of the project and the need for disruption of the Mission Market site, the Mission Market will relocate to Broadmoor Park for the 2026 season next summer. Once the creek channel project is completed, the Market will return to Johnson Drive in 2027. You can still expect the same great music, drinks, food, vendors, and community partners we offer now. Market on your calendar and plan to join us again 2026 for another great year of the Mission Market!
