Code Enforcement and Property Maintenance

Property maintenance and other code issues continue to be a high priority for Mission residents. Well maintained homes and yards improve the quality of life and preserve property values. Please read below the most common city code issues that can easily be addressed by residents.


Common Property Maintenance Code Issues

  • Houses must be kept in good repair, including paint, guttering, roofs and windows.  MMC500.100
  • Driveways, both paved and gravel, must be maintained in a proper state of repair and be free of all vegetation.  MMC500.105
  • Dual rear-wheeled vehicles are prohibited from being parked in residential areas, if it is used for any commerical purposes.  MMC320.010
  • Vehicles must be parked on the driveway or other paved areas.  No parking is permitted in any yard area.  MMC425.100
  • Trash, recycling and bulky items should be placed at the curb no earlier than 6:00 PM the day before pickup.  MMC235.320
  • Grass height should not exceed 8 inches.  MMC220.110
  • Untended or uncontrolled brush and woody vines are classified as nuisance weeds. This is a common problem along fence lines and around established trees/bushes.  MMC220.110
  • Customary passenger vehicles must be properly licensed, street operable, and move every 14 days. Inoperable vehicles must be kept inside a garage or removed from the property.  MMC220.210
  • Tools, containers,lawn equipment, trash, debris, unused landscaping materials and other miscellaneous items may not be kept in the yard or driveway.  MMC220.010
  • Recreational vehicles (boats, RV's, etc.) and hauling trailers must be parked in the rear or side yard behind the front building line. Temporary 48-hour permits for visiting recreational vehicles may be obtained twice per year.  MMC320.010
  • Dumpsters and temporary storage containers, such as "pods", must receive a permit prior to delivery.  MMC320.055
